Cincinnati
Sturkey's — (513) 821-9200; 400 Wyoming Avenue; Cincinnati, Ohio
Amenities: Enter the lobby of what was once an old firestation and you're blessed with a choice. One direction
will take you into the bar/bar area seating 40 where the full menu is available; the other will direct you toward
the restaurant proper.
Either destination will result in "very good care." That's a promise from chef/owner Paul Sturkey
himself, who ministers to an almost even blend of solo males and females at both lunch and dinner.
The restaurant area offers several 2-tops, four of which are especially choice, offering a view of the lobby
— a chance to catch the action. Others are artfully (and more comfortably for solos) tucked into a right angled
niches.
Cuisine: Contemporary American
Price: Dinner Entrees — $10-26
Neighborhood: NW (suburb: Wyoming)
Cleveland
One Walnut — (216) 575-1111; 1 Walnut Avenue; Cleveland, Ohio
Amenities: One Walnut has honed to perfection the hospitable nature of their special events — so much so,
they're termed "Hospitality" events. Solo guests are specially pampered. At a recent event, one solo
diner, known for a love of good wine, will be seated at a table which will include wine vendors. Another, an unabashed
"foodie," will be seated with representatives from the media.
The "solo diner-friendly" flavor of special events apparently has cast a spell beyond special occasions.
Solo diners — walk-ins and concierge-directed — enjoy raised banquette seating, as well as a seat at the bar (12
seats).
Cuisine: American Classic/Eclectic
Price: Dinner Entrees — $18-34

the day. (Evenings, a few solos indulge in solitary dining in the restaurant proper.)
